Critical chiral hypersurface of the magnetized NJL model

In pursuit of the sketching the effective magnetized QCD phase diagram, we found conditions on the critical coupling for chiral symmetry breaking in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in a nontrivial thermo-magnetic environment. Critical values for the plasma parameters, namely, temperature and magnetic field strength for this to happen are hence found in the mean field limit. The magnetized phase diagram is drawn from the criticality condition for different models of the effective coupling describing the inverse magnetic catalysis effect.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure

Solving the Gap Equation of the NJL Model through Iteration: Unexpected Chaos

We explore the behavior of the iterative procedure to obtain the solution to the gap equation of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NLJ) model for arbitrarily large values of the coupling constant and in the presence of a magnetic field and a thermal bath. We find that the iterative procedure shows a different behavior depending on the regularization scheme used. It is stable and very accurate when a hard cut-off is employed. Nevertheless, for the Paul-Villars and proper time regularization schemes, there exists a value of the coupling constant (different in each case) from where the procedure becomes chaotic and does not converge any longer.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figure

    Get PDF

Juan Gil-Albert’s (Alcoy, Spain, 1906) second book of poems 'Misteriosa Presencia: Sonetos' was printed in Madrid in 1936, but its distribution was aborted by the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. After the war, Gil-Albert was forced to exile himself to France and Mexico, while his poetic voice was silenced in Francoist Spain. His early production would only be reprinted in 1972, within the famous anthology 'Fuentes de la constancia'. Therefore, the influence of his 1936 homosexual sonnets on his contemporaries must have been very marginal; and yet, there is little doubt that other homosexual poets of this generation, including Luis Cernuda, must have been familiar with some version of them. Modern readers of 'Misteriosa Presencia' will discover in the book not only one of the most complete and articulated homoerotic collections of its time, but also a prelude to a panoply of homoerotic themes that would be fully developed in Gil-Albert’s later works. This paper sets out to use Lee Edelman’s concept of homographesis to study the modes of representation of the homosexual voice, its modes of appropriation of the other, and the literary topics associated with this type of love. Some of the sonnets contained in 'Misteriosa Presencia' are analysed in depth

Vested Interests: the Place of Spanish in Australian Academia

    Get PDF
The history of Spanish departments in Australian universities can be traced back to the 1960s, when a number of British hispanistas relocated to Australia and created a small number of successful teaching programs that reproduced the British model. A second generation of Spanish scholars arrived in the 1980s and 1990s, mainly from Latin American countries, in a migration wave that is still current. The transition from a British understanding of the Spanish discipline, with a strong focus on (canonical) literary studies, to current curricula that emphasise communicative skills and a loose notion of cultural studies, is symptomatic of deeper changes in the way the discipline has sought to reposition itself in the context of the Modern Languages debate

An important form of transmission of knowledge about the Spanish nation is based on the continuous telling of stories in which the nation features as a suprahistorical, perennial entity. Myths of national origin, golden-age legends, and epics of national heroes are some of these stories. This mode of access to knowledge assumes a suspension of disbelief for the audience, and precludes other attempts to comprehend the nation through scientific research. Subjective national identities constructed upon such suspension of disbelief have a tendency to reify, personify or even deify the nation. In the struggle between mythic and objective knowledge, the question of authenticity becomes a hotly contested arena. This paper attempts to address questions of mythical national representation in Spanish films of 1975-2000
